The Challenge

The manufacturer has pursued several goals:
  • One video per product

  • Emotionally charge office supplies

  • 40,000 product videos in 14 days
Schäfer Shop had the vision to have a product video for every product. Whether a pencil, eraser or a desk or filing cabinet, each of the products in the huge online shop was to be explained by a product video. Making a real video for each product was not practical. For selected top sellers like a desk chair, this was no problem, but for a pencil, the effort was out of proportion.

The solution was to be digital product videos that emotionally explain and present the products step by step.

The solution

The basis was a product data feed from the Schäfer Shop PIM which contained all information about the products (titles, descriptions, features, characteristics, product images in various representations). With the help of our technology partner AX Semantics, we were able to process this data into structured texts and descriptions.

In the next step, after structuring the data, our video team had to take action and conceptualise a video template. The challenge here was to serve the various product groups and product areas of Schäfer-Shop with only one template and to implement it in a target group-oriented way. Compliance with corporate design guidelines was just as important as finding a suitable sound.

After the conception of the template was completed and various correction loops were carried out with the customer, it was time for the implementation. After the data feed had already been provided and linked to the template, it was time to get started.

The technology and all the associated components were ready. The rendering server could get started and produce a video fully automatically every few seconds. As a result, 2,500 products could be realised in 2 days in the first run. Another 30,000 product videos were created in the following days and loaded into the Schäfer-Shop PIM via our interface and distributed from there to the online shop and Amazon channels.

The effect of the videos was sensational. No competitor could come up with videos for all kinds of products and since the products have been online, Schäfer-Shop products have an enormous USP and convert significantly better than without video!
