Last week, Amazon announced its quarterly figures: More revenue than last year and more revenue than in the first quarter of 2019. The group is especially jubilant about the revenue that was flushed in via Prime Day sales.

In the following article, in addition to all the important information on Amazon's quarterly figures for Q2 2019, we have also summarized the most important key figures for Prime Day 2019 - the most successful shopping event in Amazon's history - for you.

On Thursday evening last week, the e-commerce giant announced its quarterly figures for April, May and June 2019 after the close of the stock exchange. The sales of the Seattle-based online mail order company amounted to around 63.4 billion US dollars. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year (51.04 billion US dollars), Amazon was thus able to increase its sales by around 20%. Even compared to the very successful first quarter in 2019 (59.7 billion U.S. dollars), the company was able to record growing sales. But what about the group's profits? In Q2 2019, Amazon was able to rake in about $2.63 billion in surplus. In the same period a year earlier, it was 2.53 billion. A moderate increase, in other words. However, investors had expected significantly higher profits especially after the promising first quarter in 2019 (profit: $3.56 billion). The reason why Amazon could not seamlessly continue the brilliant figures from the previous quarters is the increasing expenses ($60.3 billion). Especially the expansion of delivery logistics collected a whole 800 million dollars. Amazon wants to make delivery of orders to Prime customers within 24 hours the standard. What has long been possible here in Germany (next-day delivery) is a challenge in North America in particular because of the large distances involved. And it is precisely this challenge that the Group is now facing up to. For this reason, investors are assuming that profits in the next three months will not be able to keep pace with the record figures from the previous months due to further high investments.

And yet: The increasing sales of the online mail order company speak for themselves and continue to secure Amazon's position as market leader. This year's Prime Day had a decisive influence on sales. On two full days, Amazon customers could make the best bargains here and save money by participating in lucrative deals. Although Amazon did not release specific figures, a spokesperson said that Prime Day had been more successful than Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined last year. Around 175 million products had been sold worldwide. For Amazon, it was the biggest shopping event in the company's history. Researchers at a U.S. market research institute estimate global revenues at 5 to 6 billion dollars. Experts assume that the sales of the participating retailers increased by a factor of five to 20 compared to a normal day. As in previous years, electronic products such as notebooks, vacuum cleaners and robotic lawnmowers were particularly popular.

It can be assumed that Prime Day will gain even more relevance next year. We will of course keep you up to date with important information in advance and will be happy to support you in planning for this and all other Amazon events.
